The problem:
Makers who create a variety of art and craft projects often have an overwhelming amount of craft supplies. Disorganization can lead to buying duplicates of supplies and spending a lot of time looking for supplies rather than creating.
The goal:
Provide individuals who have art and craft supplies with one location to keep an inventory of their supplies as well as creating a journal for their projects. The app will search the database for supplies that are already owned when a new project journal is created. In addition, the app will suggest substitution of already owned supplies for needed supplies on the list.
I gathered user research through a survey which I created and shared out through my local makerspace. I focused on an audience that each do a wide variety of art and crafts. The survey focused on types of supplies the individuals own, how they keep inventory of their supplies, and how they currently develop projects. It also contained questions about how the individuals currently track their supply inventory and what problem with their inventory tracking and project selection they would most like to solve.
Difficulty in tracking art and craft supplies
There is no easy way to track supplies and project in one place. Makers have to use a combination of apps, websites, or spreadsheets to track everything.
Own duplicates of several art and craft supplies
When preparing for a project, makers may not remember what they already own and buy duplicates.
Wastes time looking through supplies to find the ones they need for a project
Makers spend time looking through their supplies and lose time making art and crafts.
Problem Statement:
Rosie is a maker of a variety of arts and crafts who needs an effective way to create a database of her art and craft supplies because she is wasting time and money when she doesn’t know which supplies she already owns.
